Headteacher's Update
Dear parents / carers,
As we head towards half-term, I wanted to say a big thank you for all your support over these past few weeks. I have thoroughly enjoyed working at this lovely school. I must admit having a broken wrist has been challenging, and I have seen a little too much of trains and Premier Inns, but it hasn’t stopped me feeling very much at home at Lingwood.
I will continue to lead the school until Miss Laycock is well enough to return.
It’s good to see that class dojo is being used with parents now but as I explained last week we are not currently using it for contact between home and school. Please contact staff through office@lingwoodprimary.org.uk. As I mentioned in a previous message, we are working on ensuring there is consistency in what both staff and children do. You will be sent a document that we are calling the ‘Lingwood Way’. Please have a look at our expectations for the school day.
Attendance hit a record high last week with our weekly school attendance hitting an impressive 97%. Well-done to everyone for this fantastic achievement.
Have a wonderful half-term break with your amazing children and we will see you back at school on Monday 24th February.
Regards,
Ben Jeffery

Year Group News
Nursery
This week Bishy’s class carried on with reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and enjoyed activities linked to the story. Our adult-led activity has involved making cards from Goldilocks to the three bears, talking together about the morals behind the story and what Goldilocks could do next to make things better. In maths we have been learning more about basic patterns, with children using objects to make their own line patterns. And in phonics our focus has been on body percussion, experimenting with the different sounds we can make as we move our bodies.
Reception
This week, Reception have been reading ‘Chicken Clicking’ all about a chick who discovers the importance of being safe online. We have talked about some rules to help us use the internet safely and made some posters to remind us. In maths we have been thinking about measuring and using words like longer, longest, shorter and shortest.
Year 1
Year 1 have been reading and writing our own poems in English this week. We have read lots of poems with a nature theme and then wrote our own using adjectives to add description. In maths we have been working measuring in centimetres and in Geography learnt the names and locations of the ocean and seas around the United Kingdom.
Year 2
In Year 2, we started reading the Street Beneath my Feet and we have really enjoyed learning about the seven layers of the Earth. We have worked hard to summarise and retrieve information from the text.
We have also completed our Everyday Materials Science unit. We had to think about a science test that would help us find out which material was the most absorbent. We enjoyed working in groups and making sure it was a fair test.
Year 3
This week in year 3 we have finished reading Sam Wu is NOT afraid of the dark. We have enjoyed reading this book and had an excellent class discussion about some of our own fears and how we have overcome them. In writing we have been exploring and comparing poems.
We completed our DT unit this week by preparing and cooking our chips, the children were really surprised to like the flavour of thyme.
Year 4
Year 4 has had a fantastic spring term. Lots of children have grown their love for reading, improved their standards of writing in books, shown determination and resilience in lessons and have worked hard on their times tables practice. This week, the children have enjoyed writing their explanatory texts on the digestive system and becoming top chefs in their design and technology unit cooking pizza, bread rolls and fresh tomato soup. Well done Year 4 have a well-deserved rest.
Year 5
Year 5 have been working hard with finding fractions of amounts. With our writing unit, the children have used parenthesis to add additional information in preparation for writing a synopsis. For Internet Safety day, Year 5 joined a zoom call with Norfolk Police, who outlined how to stay safe online and who they could talk to if they had any issues.
Year 6
Year 6 finished their explanation texts on volcanoes this week. Myself and Mr Jeffery will judge them and award two prizes: best one overall and most improved from the previous piece. Year 6 also joined an online workshop with the Norfolk Police as part of Internet Safety Day.
