Headteachers Update
It has been a pleasure to see so many of you in school for parents' evening this week. Teachers enjoyed meeting with you to discuss how your children have been settling into their new classes.
We have also finished updating our library with new books and are excited to let the children choose one to bring home.
Ukulele lessons are going well in year 4, the children love their sessions and we are all enjoying listening to their work!
Thank you to those parents who attended the Reception Curriculum meeting with Mrs Brighton this week. We hope it was informative.
Thank you for your continuing support.

Year Group News
Nursery
This week in Bishy Barney Bees we have been talking more about our families, celebrating the fact that each home is unique. Children have been drawing pictures of who lives in their house, talking about what they love about their families as they do so. Our maths learning this week has moved on to exploring shapes, building language around 2D shapes as children build homes with wooden blocks in our construction area. We have also been taking this learning outside, working together to move crates, planks of wood and heavier blocks as we build homes on a bigger scale. We've then had lots of fun acting out stories and developing our imaginative play! In phonics we are playing games around initial sounds and alliteration, learning the sounds at the start of our names and at the beginning of words for familiar objects.
Reception
This week Reception Rabbits have been measuring and weighing in maths and using words like taller, shorter, heavier and lighter. They have looked at the book, 'It's a No Money Day' and have been learning about what a foodbank is and why they are important. They have also been writing shopping lists and using all the sounds they have been learning to help them with this.
Year 1
This week year one have been writing fantastic setting descriptions using adjectives and have been enjoying reading Where the Wild Things Are. We created our own monsters based on a poem called The Grabbler and then compared our creations to the Wild Things in our story. We have continued our work on addition and fact families in maths and have been delving more into the objects used in Puja (Hindu worship) in RE.
Year 2
During our last lesson on The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg, we really enjoyed making our own comic strips with the message: Be happy with what you have. They turned out very funny! During or PSHE lesson, we discussed what bullying is and gave examples of what bullying is and what it is not and came up with a list of people that we can talk to when were are unhappy.
Year 3
In Year three this week we have been practicing writing descriptive narratives using adjectives and adverbs. In Maths we have been learning how to add ones, tens and hundreds and have worked hard to apply our learning when crossing the tens or hundreds boundaries. Year three have particularly enjoyed our History topic on The Stone Age periods and this week we have been learning about nomads and survival.
Year 4
This week Year 4 have started their new text The Raven in Reading - a poem by Edgar Allan Poe. They are exploring the personification used to tell the story of a man seeking his lost love. In Writing, we have begun to write our persuasive adverts convincing an audience to stay safe on the internet. In Geography, the children conducted an experiment with Mrs Lal using boiled eggs and salt water to see what effect happens when an egg is placed in salt and freshwater. They then linked this to how a river and the sea meet.
Year 5
In Year 5 this week, we have started our new writing unit of third person stories set in another culture. We have focused on using expanded noun phrases and have an understanding of the difference between explicit and implicit information. In Maths, the children have been focusing on addition and subtraction, making sure they set their calculations out correctly. In Art, we produced our own abstract art in the style of Hundertwasser.
