Headteacher's Update
What a lovely way to finish the term with our celebration assembly. It was great to hear some of the songs from the Christmas performances and celebrate the achievements of this week. It was especially pleasing to see so many children achieve 100% attendance this autumn term.
If you haven't yet please read my letter which was sent to parents yesterday.
I hope that you and your families have a wonderful Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
See you all on the 6th January. Please note moving forward the newsletter will be sent on a Monday. The first being Monday 13th January.

Year Group News
Nursery
This week in Nursery the children have enjoyed making their Christmas cards and decorating their tree cookies. Lots of glitter has been used! We also had a visit from the vicar. Merry Christmas and happy New Year.
Reception
We have been busy preparing for Christmas this week in Reception, making cards and decorations, wrapping presents and reading Christmas stories. We have also been reading a story about ‘The Christmas Pine’, thinking about which country it might have come from and looking on a map of the world to follow it’s journey. We have been recapping the composition of numbers to 5 in maths and making repeating patterns.
Year 1
This week in year 1, we have been using our number bonds knowledge to solve problems in Maths and working on rhyming words and patterns in English. We had a visit from Rvd. Jane and Lorna to talk to us about the Christmas story and how the church prepare for Christmas. We have finished off our Science topic of ‘Animals’ and have been enjoying lots of Christmas stories. We also had our last gymnastic session where we learnt how to do different rolls and then used our skills to put together a routine.
Year 2
In Year 2 this week, we have been working hard to write our cultural stories. We have been using adjectives, adverbs and lots of cultural details to make our narrative very interesting for our readers.
We have also been working hard as a team during our PE lesson. Everyone has shown great sportsmanship by communicating well with their team, listening to each other and using kind encouraging phrases to complete the challenges. The children ended the week by using their stippling technique learnt in art, to create a 2025 calendar and enjoyed a well-deserved pop-corn movie treat!
Year 3
Year 3 has had a lovely week to end the term. We have been working hard to finish writing our historical narratives in English and the children are all very proud of their work. We had our final gymnastics lesson, learning different types of rolls and are looking forward to starting our swimming lessons next term. In addition to this we have had some festive fun with our KS2 performance and watching the pantomime.
Year 4
What a wonderful week to mark off the end of term! We finished our news reports on the “torrential snow” we’ve been having in Lingwood. We started our new core text,
Varjak Paw,
which is all about a rare cat learning the skill of martial arts. In History, they rounded off their knowledge with the Vikings and Anglo Saxons. In Maths, we come towards the end of Multiplication and Division ready to start our new topic of Length and Perimeter.
Year 5
In writing, Year 5 have finished writing and editing their balanced argument about whether we should ban school uniform. They confidently used modal verbs, as well as sustaining a formal tone. In maths, we have finished adding and subtracting fractions - the children have developed their confidence over the unit by knowing how to change the denominator. In history, we have been thinking about democracy and why theatres were so important to society in Ancient Greece.
Year 6
Year 6 have made so much progress this term and should be proud of what they have achieved. This week however they have been finding a fraction of an amount on maths, studying poems in English (Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18 and Wordsworth’s Daffodils) and finished their unit in geography on earthquakes, mountains and volcanoes.
